Engineering Estimator

GoFind Recruitment is working with an established engineering and manufacturing business looking to recruit an Engineering Estimator to join its growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in CNC machining, precision engineering or manufacturing who is looking to take the next step in their career.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive quotations, interpreting engineering drawings and working closely with production teams, suppliers and customers to identify cost-effective manufacturing solutions.

Previous estimating experience is desirable but not essential. We would also welcome applications from experienced CNC Machinists, Production Engineers or Manufacturing Engineers who have the technical knowledge and commercial understanding to develop into an estimating role.

Key Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Prepare accurate technical and commercial quotations for manufacturing projects.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications and CAD models to establish customer requirements.
  • Calculate manufacturing costs, including materials, machining, tooling and production processes.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Production and Purchasing teams to develop competitive quotations.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers and subcontractors throughout the quotation process.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering.
  • Assess component tolerances, materials and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Maintain accurate costing information, quotation records and Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Support the wider operational team to ensure customer requirements are delivered.
  • Attend site visits when required.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong background in engineering, CNC machining or precision manufacturing.
  • Good understanding of CNC turning and milling processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances and component production.
  • Understanding of machined and cast components, tooling and fixtures.
  • Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage workloads independently and meet deadlines.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous experience in engineering estimating or preparing manufacturing quotations.
  • Experience using CAD software.
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes.
  • Experience within the railway engineering or manufacturing sector.
  • Understanding of Bills of Materials (BOM) and manufacturing costing.
