VAT Assistant

Due to continued growth and an increasing client portfolio, they are now looking to appoint a VAT Assistant to join their expanding team.This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a friendly boutique practice where every individual plays an important role. The Role

As VAT Assistant, you will support the preparation and submission of VAT returns while ensuring clients remain compliant with current HMRC legislation. Working closely alongside the senior accounting team, you'll assist with a portfolio of clients and become a key member of the practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns for a portfolio of clients
  • Review bookkeeping records to ensure accuracy prior to VAT submissions
  • Assist clients with VAT-related queries
  • Reconcile VAT control accounts
  • Support Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance
  • Liaise with HMRC when required
  • Assist with bookkeeping duties and general accounts administration
  • Monitor VAT deadlines and ensure submissions are completed on time
  • Maintain accurate client records and documentation
  • Keep up to date with changes in VAT legislation
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients

About You

  • Previous experience within an accountancy practice or finance environment
  • Basic understanding of UK VAT
  • Experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage or QuickBooks
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn

Desirable

  • AAT qualification or currently studying
  • Previous experience preparing VAT returns
  • Knowledge of Making Tax Digital (MTD)
